“I have stayed in Costa Calma Palace 3 years ago so I know the area.
The airport was professional, with great covid checks. JET2 excellent
The coach ride from the airport is long and boring due to its volcanic views 1 hr covid masks mandatory.
The R2 Rio is a nice building on top of a steep hill down to the village, we did not think we could manage the hill so we did not go to the village. I don't know if they had a bus or other transport.
The hotel Reception Staff 6th floor, were all excellent no Jet2 rep on site.
The location of our room was good for my disabled daughter, with a flat walk to the restaurant, disco, spa etc. 3rd floor
The bathroom & shower were excellent however the shower was into a small bath, which my daughter could not manage climbing in and out, I called Reception and a carpeted step was delivered in minutes.
One minor problem there is a balcony to the rooms, some people took the opportunity to smoke we therefore had to keep our window closed to keep out the stink.
We were ALL INCLUSIVE and were given bracelets, we were not told that some areas had additional charges, the Spa, Gym, and on some items at the shop, and the external bar/snack bar.
We were told about the charges for WiFi 1e, Safe 3e, per day.
We ran up an additional charge of 50+ euros when a new waiter at the snack bar told us for the first time that the menu card we were looking at was chargeable, and there was a smaller limited menu for all inclusive.
The swimming pools were stupendous well attended, but some smokers did not respect the restricted areas.
The bars were all friendly well stocked with branded drinks and all inclusive.
The restaurant was large internal and external areas, the welcome and staff were excellent.
The salad bar was extensive the bread bar, fruit bar, sweet bar all excellent
I was disappointed with the main courses, they were like a self-service canteen, e.g. I tried lamb chops, they were dry, hard and unpleasant, I tried pork and chicken they were the same. As I have somewhere to compare with, I would say the Palace food was far superior.
The entertainment was mostly outside and was very loud, guitarist was brilliant, being ill it went on a little late for me.
There was a lovely wedding reception which looked very good from above, they had some very large fireworks,.
We tried the free sample of the spa on Friday evening very pleasant.
On Saturday evening I had a tunafish sweetcorn mayo salad.
In the middle of the night I woke up and ran to the toilet. I had food poisoning, with Projectile vomiting, diarrhea, worse than I have ever had. I ended up in bed 2-3 further days. I asked reception if they had paracetamol, they said they could not provide any medication, they could call a Dr if I authorised 100 E to the room.
As I knew what a Dr would say on a Sunday evening, I declined, some kind english people heard my daughter , they went to their room and gave her 8 paracetamol, which helped a great deal with the pain at least. No hotel staff checked how I was, however a kind cleaning lady, when asked, disinfected the bathroom, I had cleaned it.
I am now at home and still suffering.
In conclusion I preferred the SBH Palace Hotel for the food and location.”

“Absolutely stunning hotel, I really couldn't fault it. We've just returned home from a 2 week stay. A piece of paradise!, stunning views of the ocean, beautiful pools.Staff are lovely and work really hard. Location is quiet, only 5 euros to main area, not much there, just a few shops and restaurants. Depends what type of holiday you are wanting.”
